
No. 17 Ohio State Overwhelms No. 50 Women's Tennis

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 17 Buckeyes proved to be too much on Sunday for the No. 50 Spartans. Ohio State took the first six points of the day, winning, 6-1. Michigan State falls to 16-8 and finishes at 5-6 in the Big Ten Conference.
Junior Emily Meyers earned the only victory for Michigan State at No. 6 singles. Meyers defeated Olivia Sneed, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0. Meyers improved to 21-13 on the year in singles play and 11-7 at No. 6 singles. With today's victory Meyers finished the Big Ten season with a winning record in singles play at 6-5.
Sophomore Erin Faulkner fell to Gabriella De Santis at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 2 singles, freshman Lexi Baylis was defeated by Anna Sanford, 6-1, 6-3.
Freshman Aslina Chua fell short against Sandy Niehaus at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-2.
At No. 4 singles, senior Catherine Parenteau was edged by Miho Kowase, 6-2, 6-3.
Sophomore Athena Trouillot lost to Grainne O'Neil, 6-0, 6-3.
The Buckeyes started the day taking the doubles point. The No. 45 team of Gabriella De Santis and Sandy Niehaus defeated Erin Faulkner and Catherine Parenteau at No. 1 doubles, 8-1. At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Anna Zelechonok and Athena Trouillot fell to Olivia Sneed and Miho Kowase, 8-3. Lexi Baylis and Emily Meyers were leading at No. 2 doubles, 6-4 before the match was called.
The Spartans will have to wait to see who they will face in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday. The tournament will take place in Evanston, Illinois, on the campus of Northwestern University. This will be the second time that the team will compete at Northwestern; the Spartans competed in the Wildcat Invitational in September.
