KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The No. 60 Spartans fell to Western Michigan (8-3) on the road on Saturday, 4-3.
"That team was very hungry for us," head coach Gene Orlando said. "They won some close matches and were able to defeat us."
MSU won the doubles point, behind the first doubles win from John Patrick Mullane and Harry Jadun since Jan. 18, and another great performance from Jasper Koenen and Doug Zade.
The Broncos then took four of the singles matches. Michael Dube and Jadun dispatched their opponents in straight sets, but the match came down to No. 1 and No. 2 singles, which went to three sets.
Gijs Linders and Brett Forman fell to Maik Steiner and Jefta Kecic, respectively. The score at No. 1 singles was 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, and the No. 2 singles score was 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.
"We'll move on and continue to work," Orlando said. "We can't wait for Dartmouth and Youngstown State next weekend."
The Spartans fall to 7-6 on the season.
