NOTRE DAME, Ind. -
After redeeming themselves in the first round of doubles at the ITA Midwest Regionals after a tough loss earlier this season, sophomore Michael Dube and partner junior Mac Roy ended their run against the Michigan duo of Davis Crocker/Lubo Cuba, taking the 8-3 loss on Saturday afternoon.
Head coach Gene Orlando said that Michigan came out hot and struck early.
"Roy and Dube ran into a hot team," Orlando said. "They got on us early, and we were unable to get back into it."
Orlando said that although the Spartans did not finish as high as they had hoped, the group of all but one upper classmen showed great improvement.
"We put a lot of time in, and we were disappointed that we weren't able to get better results," Orlando said. "We're improving while making strides. We just need to stay committed to what we're doing. With younger players, we're looking for results, but it takes time to earn those results. I really did feel like the guys made improvements and played competitive matches. Unfortunately, we were unable to close them out."
The Spartans next test of skill will be at the Big Ten Indoor Championships held in Iowa City, Iowa, beginning on November 6.
