Michigan State Falls to Iowa, 3-1, on Friday

EAST LANSING, Mich. â€" Michigan State field hockey fell to Iowa, 3-1, in Friday's Big Ten contest held at Grant Field in Iowa City, Iowa. The Spartans move to 5-10 on the season and 2-4 in the conference.
MSU was first to get on the board, scoring at 12:39 to go up 1-0 over the Hawkeyes. The unassisted goal came from freshman Madison O'Neill and marked the first of her Spartan career.
Iowa's sophomore Veronique Declercq netted one off of a penalty corner at 33:18 to tie the game at 1-1 heading into halftime. The goal, assisted by freshman Makenna Grewe and sophomore Melissa Progar, was her fifth of the season.
The Hawkeyes scored two in the second half, taking a 3-1 lead over the Spartans. Junior Sophie Plasteras scored at 49:23 mark, before junior Chandler Ackers found the back of the net at 59:17.
Michigan State took a timeout at 59:17, but was unable to find rhythm on offense and came up short against the Hawkeyes.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Miller started in her fifth-straight game for the Spartans, and recorded four saves in the contest.
The Spartans will continue their Big Ten road trip as they head to Evanston, Ill. to face Northwestern at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
