
Buckeyes Down Swimming & Diving

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The MSU swimming and diving teams fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday afternoon. Michigan State tallied seven victories against Ohio State. The men's team was defeated by the No. 12 Buckeyes, 168-75, and the women were defeated, 148.5-93.5. The men fall to 4-4, and 0-3 in the Big Ten. The women now have a record of 4-7, and 0-3 in the Big Ten.
"I feel good about how we did tonight," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "We jumbled up our lineup tonight. It was nice to see some kids compete in some events they don't normally do. Tomorrow we will go back to our regular lineup and see how we do."
The Spartan women started off strong on Friday, MSU finished in first in the first event of the night in the 400 medley relay. The team of freshman Madison Nowak, senior Shelby Lacy, sophomore Sarah Love, and junior Emily Parsons finished with a time of 3:50.50.
In the men's 200 IM, Michigan State finished with the top two times. Junior Ian Rodriguez finished in first at 1:53.03. Freshman Tal Hanani followed behind, finishing second, clocking in at 1:53.95.
MSU found success in women's diving against the Buckeyes. Senior Cristee Cordes earned a victory in the 3-meter diving event for the second time in eight days. Cordes tallied a score of 320.10. Sophomore Madeline Sewell finished in second with a score of 314.03.
Sophomore Kennedy Cutler notched a victory for Michigan State in the 100 freestyle. Cutler finished with a career best time of 53.34.
Senior Kyle Workman recorded a second-place finish in the men's 100 free. Workman hit the pad at 46.83.
The Spartans found themselves two second place finishes in the 100 fly. Junior Elizabeth Brown finished in second on the women's side at 55.93. Jacob Moore finished second on the men's side at 50.58.
In the women's 100 backstroke, Maddie Nowak took first place points, after she clocked in at 57.65. Freshman Connor Lamb continued his hot streak in 2015, by winning the men's 500 free. Lamb recorded a time of 4:38.00.
Senior Hannah Pugh came in second in the women's 500 free. Pugh recorded a time of 5:05.32. She also finished second in the 200 IM, clocking in at 2:08.94.
The Spartans finished the night winning the men's 200 free relay. The team of sophomore Adam Marsh, junior Jacob Moore, freshman Nick Leshok, and freshman Lachie McLeish finished with a time of 1:23.56.
Michigan State returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. to face the Golden Grizzles of Oakland at the OU Aquatic Center.
