
Swimming & Diving Falls to Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The MSU men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to the Boilermakers after three days of competition at Purdue. The men's team fell, 242-203, and the women were defeated by the No. 19 Boilermakers, 248-193.
"I am very proud of the team after this weekend," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "I am especially proud of Madison Nowak, coming out and competing hard as a freshman walk-on. I am also proud of Lachie McLeish; he is going to have a very good career here at Michigan State. Purdue is a fantastic team, I am very proud of what we did here this weekend."
The Spartans started Saturday off with winning the men's 400 medley relay. The team of freshman Alex Trompke, sophomore Alec Kandt, junior Jacob Moore, and freshman Lachie McLeish finished with a time of 3:22.22.
McLeish also had two other first place finishes in the men's 200 free. He clocked in with a 1:39.40 finish. McLeish was also victorious in the 100 free, where he recorded a time of 46.05.
In the men's 100 fly, Alex Trompke finished first with a time of 49.69.
In the men's 1000 free, freshman Joe Szczupakiewicz finished in second, with a time of 9:38.03.
Senior Chelsea Abbott recorded a second place finish in the women's 500 free. She finished with a time of 5:13.61.
Freshman Connor Lamb finished first in the men's 200 IM. He recorded a time of 1:53.69.
The Spartans ended the day, winning the men's 400 free relay. The team of Moore, freshman Nick Leshok, sophomore Adam Marsh, and McLeish finished with a time of 3:03.72.
The women's team returns to action on Friday as they travel to Bowling Green to face the Falcons. Both teams will return back home on Jan. 23, as they host Big Ten foe Ohio State.
