Women's Tennis Finishes Wildcat Invite

Sept. 28, 2014 EVANSTON, Ill.- The Spartans finished the Wildcat Invite on Sunday, coming away winners in five singles matches and three doubles matches. MSU finished with a total of twenty-six victories on the weekend.
"We had some really good wins today, everyone showed improvements each day during the tournament," said head coach Simone Jardim. "I am overall really happy; we had some really good personal and team results this weekend."
The Spartans tallied three victories in the Draw A singles bracket on Sunday. Freshman Aslina Chua defeated host Northwestern's Jillian Rooney, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5. Fellow freshman Lexi Baylis took down Caroline Aleck of Western Michigan, 6-4, 6-0. Sophomore Erin Faulkner was also victorious over Pitt's Katherine Castro, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6.
MSU got a pair of victories in Draw B singles as junior Emily Meyers beat Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna of Eastern Michigan, 6-2, 6-1, and senior Hilary Hager beat Western Michigan's Ella Perinovic, 3-6, 6-1, 10-8.
The duo of freshman Allie Baer and senior Catherine Parenteau captured a victory in Draw A doubles, defeating Northwestern's Doshi and Rooney, 8-1.
In Draw B doubles, Michigan State took home two victories as the team of Baylis and Meyers beat Lanier and Lederman of Kentucky, 8-4. Freshman Colleen O'Brien and sophomore Emmy Virkus came out on the winning end beating Petrovska and Perinovic of Western Michigan, 8-4.
The Spartans are back in action Friday as they head to Akron where they will compete in the Akron Invitational along with Cornell and West Virginia.
