EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Aerial Powers had 10 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals, Anna Morrissey scored 17 and No. 16 Michigan State beat Miami of Ohio 85-39 on Sunday.
Powers recorded her fifth double-double of the season for Michigan State (4-1), which dominated the RedHawks (1-3) in nearly every facet except free-throw shooting where the Spartans were 7 of 19.
The Spartans shot a season-high 58.1 percent from the field in the first half, including 5-for-9 from 3-point range, to build a 41-19 lead.
Tori Jankoska finished 4 of 7 from 3-point range for 16 points, Jasmine Lumpkin added 13 points, and Becca Mills scored 10.
Lumpkin had five of Michigan State's 17 offensive rebounds and the Spartans had a 49-28 overall edge on the glass.
Baleigh Reid scored 10 to lead Miami which was 1 of 12 from 3-point range and 12 of 48 overall.
Post-Game Notes
The 39 points by Miami (Ohio) was the fewest allowed by the Michigan State defense since 35 vs. Oregon State on Dec. 19, 2012 in a 49-35 MSU victory.
MSU's 46 point margin of victory was the Spartans' largest of the season ... It was also the largest point-span since a 50-point win with a 96-46 victory over Colgate on Dec. 29, 2013.
The Spartans' 85 points was not only a season-high but the first time topping the 80-point plateau this season and most points since 91 vs. Hampton on March 23, 2014.
Sunday was the first meeting between MSU and Miami (Ohio) since 2002 ... The Spartans' win snapped a three-game losing skid in the series and since 1980, as the RedHawks still lead the all-time series, 4-2, while the match-ups in East Lansing are now level at 1-1.
MSU is now 2-0 this season against the Mid-American Conference (W, 69-61 vs. Eastern Michigan on 11/16) ... The Spartans are now 85-36 (.720) all-time against the MAC.
All five Michigan State starters netted double-figures, marking the first time this season of doing so ... Sunday was the first time since against Hampton on March 23, 2014 to have five players score in double-digits.
Senior guard Anna Morrissey recorded a career-high in points for the second game in a row with her game-high 17 points Sunday ... The double-digit scoring was also the second in as many games in her career ... Morrissey netted a career-high four three-pointers, doubling her previous career-best of two vs. Eastern Michigan (11/16)
Redshirt-sophomore forward Aerial Powers ran her streak of five-consecutive double-doubles to open the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds Sunday ... Powers added a career-high seven assists and tied a career-best with two blocks as well ... The double-double is Powers' ninth double-double in her last 11 games in addition to her 15th career double-double.
Sophomore guard Tori Jankoska netted a season-high four three-pointers on the way to 16 points Sunday ... Jankoska has now drained multiple three-pointers in three of the five games this season and 22 career games ... With one block Sunday, Jankoska now has three games this season with at least one rejection, following her career-high three blocks vs. Oakland (11/26).
The double-digit scoring by Powers and Jankoska was both of their fifth-straight games this season and the 28th time in their careers.
Freshman guard Lexi Gussert recorded her first points of her Spartan career with her first-half layup ... All nine Spartan players who have suited up for action have now scored this season.
Senior center Jasmine Hines tallied a season-high 10 points for the second game in a row, logging double-digit points for her 19th career game.
Senior forward Becca Mills snared a season-high eight rebounds.
Junior guard Cara Miller netted a season-high six points.
MSU registered season-highs for points (85), field goal percentage (53.0 percent) and assists (22) for the second-straight game, in addition to tying a season-best for blocks (7) ... The Spartans also shot a season-best 44.4 percent from three-point range.
The 53.0 percent field goal shooting was not only a season-high but highest since 53.3 percent at Illinois on Feb. 5, 2014.
MSU had a season-high rebounding advantage for the second-straight game with its +21 (49-28) advantage Sunday ... The Spartans have had a positive advantage in all five games this season, including three by double-digits ... MSU has out-rebounded its opponent in 104 of its last 129 games (80.6 percent) ... The +21 was first time over 20 and largest since +24 (57-33) against Ohio State on Feb. 15, 2014.
The Spartans have started the same starting line-up of sophomore guard Tori Jankoska, senior guard Anna Morrissey, freshman guard Jasmine Lumpkin, redshirt-sophomore forward Aerial Powers and senior forward Becca Mills in all five games this season ... Mills started for the 74th time in her career, while Powers made her 38th career start and Jankoska started her 22nd game of her career ... Morrissey and Lumpkin both made their fifth-straight starts of their careers.
