Spartans Wrap Up Fall Season

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Michigan State women's golf team concluded its fall season Sunday afternoon at the Landfall Tradition, held at the Country Club of Landfall's Pete Dye Course. In the third and final round of the event, the Spartans carded their best round of the tournament with an 8-over-par 296 and finished with a 50-over 914 (315-303-296).
MSU placed 17th in the challenging 18-team field that featured 10 teams ranked in the Golfweek Top 25 and 13 in the Top 50.
Freshman Sarah Burnham closed out her impressive fall season with a 1-under 71 on Sunday in a round that featured five birdies. Burnham led the Spartans at the Landfall Tradition by tying for 49th place with a 7-over 223 (77-75-71), which equaled her lowest 54-hole score of the fall (Mason Rudolph Championship). She will enter the spring with the lowest scoring average (74.58) on the team.
Junior Gabby Yurik tied for 69th place after carding a 76 in the third round. Yurik finished at 12-over 228 (79-73-76).
Senior Lindsey McPherson finished in 74th place with a 230 (79-76-75).
Red-shirt freshman Katie Sharp, playing in the starting lineup for the first time as a Spartan, tallied the second-best round of the day for MSU with a 2-over 74. She closed at 233 (80-79-74) to tie for 85th.
Freshman Jacqueline Setas tied for 89th at 236 (80-79-77).
With four fall tournaments now complete, the Spartans will turn their focus toward the spring season, which begins Feb. 8-10 at the Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, California.
