Women's Tennis Finishes Competition at Midwest Regionals

URBANA, Ill. - The Spartan women's tennis team finished competition at the ITA Midwest Regionals on Saturday afternoon. Michigan State notched a win in the singles main draw.
"We are making some good progressions," said MSU head coach Simone Jardim. "We just have to stay focused. We have a really talented group, and I think we will be ready to go in the spring."
Freshman Lexi Baylis started the day against Marquette's Ana Pimienta, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Baylis then fell to the top seed in the region, Emina Bektas of Michigan, 6-1, 6-2. Baylis finished the tournament with a record of 4-1.
Sophomore Erin Faulkner fell to DePaul's Rebecca Mitrea, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. In doubles play, Faulkner was paired with fellow sophomore Athena Trouillot, the pair fell to Gleason and Robinsion of Notre Dame, 8-6.
Freshman Aslina Chua lost to Mary Closs of Notre Dame in singles play, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
The Spartans will return back to action on Jan. 18, as they host Oakland and Eastern Michigan.
