Men's Tennis In ITA Regional Quarterfinals

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Michigan State men's tennis team continued play in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships Friday and Saturday.
In doubles play, the pair of Harry Jadun and John Patrick Mullane advance to the quarterfinals match against the No. 1 seeded pair of Ralf Steinbach and Kevin Metka of Ohio State on Sunday. Jadun and Mullane, the No. 6 seed in doubles, defeated Youngstown State's Remi Chancerel and Silviu Mistreanu in the first round, 8-3. Jadun and Mullane then went on to beat Strong Kirchheimer and Logan Staggs of Northwestern and Illinois' Aron Hiltzik and Toshiki Matsuya, 8-3 and 8-6, respectively.
Mullane is also still in the hunt for singles. In the first round, the No. 8 seed defeated Jorge Gonzalez Soler of Wisconsin-Green Bay, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2. Mullane then knocked off Ohio State's Matt Mendez, 7-6 (3), 6-3, and Eddy Covalschi of Notre Dame, the No. 16 seed, 6-0, 6-3. Mullane will face the No. 13 seed, Hiltzik, in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
