Oct. 17, 2014 URBANA, Ill. - The Spartans tallied a total of three victories on day two of the Midwest Regionals. The Spartans are represented by three in the main singles draw and one team remaining in the main doubles draw.
"I think we looked good today," said head coach Simone Jardim. "There are things we have to execute better. We just have to take things one day at a time and the results will come"
The day was started off by freshman Lexi Baylis. Baylis defeated Eastern Michigan's Ani Gogvadze, 6-3, 6-0. The victory advanced her to qualify for the main singles draw where she will face Ana Pimienta of Marquette.
"Lexi Baylis played really well today," said Jardim "I am really proud of her she is really a fierce competitor."
The sophomore duo of Erin Faulkner and Athena Trouillot started the day with a first round bye. In the second round the team defeated the team of Kadi Ilves and Chanel Scudiero of Illinois State, 8-4. The pair will take on the No. 4 seed of Gleason and Robinson of Notre Dame. Faulkner will face Rebeca Mitrea of DePaul in the singles draw as well.
The team of senior Catherine Parenteau and freshman Aslina Chua defeated Alexa Brandt and Ashley Thai of Bradley, 8-4. The pair later fell to Michigan's Emina Bektas and Alex Najaran, 8-2. The action will continue tomorrow for Chua as she will face Notre Dame's Mary Closs in the singles draw.
Junior Emily Meyers and Baylis lost to Grace Tapak and Madie Baillon of Illinois, 8-4.
