MSU falls to Boston College

ORONO, Maine - Michigan State field hockey fell 1-0 to No. 17 Boston College in its first regular-season game today.

The Eagles came up with a shot on goal that was saved by Molly Cassidy within the first thirty seconds of the game. Cassidy faced an early flurry, as the opening shot was followed by two penalty corners and two more shots, all of which Cassidy saved. Boston College scored their only goal at 3:50 in the first half, as Virgynia Muma scored off a rebound of a wide shot that hit the right goal post.

"Boston College had an early goal on us however, we stayed composed," said head coach Helen Knull. "As a team they came out ready to compete and stepped up during the second half playing a more proactive defense. They transferred and moved the ball by backfield and through the midfield well which created attacking opportunities. It is now time to regroup and make some adjustments for Sunday."

Cassidy tallied six saves on the day for the Spartans.

MSU had two shots in the match against Boston College both during the second half, Abby Barker and Allie Ahern each had one shot.

The green and white had two penalty corners, one during each half. While Boston College totaled five penalty corners, having four in the first half and one during the second.

The Spartans take on Maine at noon on Sunday to wrap up their time on the east coast. They will return to East Lansing over Labor Day weekend.
