KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Michigan State men's golf team concluded play at the Irish Creek Collegiate on Sunday, finishing seventh with a 12-over par 864 (287-286-291). Junior Dan Ellis had his fourth top-10 finish of the season, tying for 10th with a 3-under par 210 (70-67-73).
"I am very disappointing in the finish to our day," said Spartan head coach Casey Lubahn "We saw good progress in a lot areas but the way we started and finished our rounds put us in a hole we couldn't get out of. We have to get better with a couple good weeks at home to prepare for the Hawkeye Invitational."
Dan Ellis topped his career low 54-hole score by one shot this weekend. He totaled 10 birdies in the tournament. Ellis played the par-5s at 4-under and the par-4s at 3-under for the weekend.
Senior Chris Mory shot the low round of the day by a Spartan, posting a 2-under par 69, moving up into a tie for 20th at 1-over par 214 (71-74-69). Mory had a team-high 11 birdies this weekend, including five on Sunday. He also played the par-5s at 5-under over the 54 holes. Mory has finished in the top-20 in six of the eight stroke play tournaments this season.
Freshman McCormick Clouser tied for 40th at 7-over par 220 (70-73-77) and junior Dave Ellis was a shot behind Clouser, tying for 43rd at 8-over par 221 (76-72-73). Rounding out the Spartan lineup, junior Matthew Moseley tied for 63rd at 16-over par 229 (77-76-76).
No. 21 Kent State ran away with the team title, carding a 27-under par 825, topping the field by 14 shots. Mercer's James Beale won the individual crown, shooting a 13-under par 200.
