Men'sTennis Picks Up Win

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team wrapped up their weekend with a 6-1 win on the road versus Wisconsin. This was the first conference win for the Spartans which brings their conference record to 1-3 and ends their two game losing streak. The Spartans dropped the doubles point to begin the match but bounced back winning all six singles points.
Wisconsin won the first point of the day in doubles play taking two of the three matches. On court three Robles and Carey defeated Gijs Linders and Denis Bogatov 8-6 to get out to an early lead. Drew Lied and Aaron Pfister were able to help the Spartans bounce back with a win on court one over Ask and Bertha by a score of 8-6 to tie things up. Wisconsin was able to get the win on court two however as Kostanov and Satral beat Harry Jadun and Austin Brooks 8-6 to win the point for the Badgers.
From there on out it was all MSU as the Spartans won all six singles matches. On court two Ronnie Hulewicz picked up the first win with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Carey. Then on court five Drew Lied won 6-3, 7-5 over Quirk. The rest of the matches all went into the three sets but MSU was able to stay on top in each of them. On court four Austin Brooks recorded a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Bertha.
On court three Denis Bogatov was in a close match with Stral with the final set going into a tie-breaker before winning 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4). Aaron Pfister then won for the Spartans dropping the first set but winning the rest with scores 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). The final win of the day went to Gijs Linders on court six as the Spartans completed the sweep in singles play as he recorded a 6-2, 6-7 (9-7), 6-4 win over Vega.
Michigan State returns home next weekend for two more Big Ten matches. The Spartans take on Indiana on Saturday March 31 at noon followed by a match against Purdue on Sunday April 1 also at noon. Both matches will take place at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
