MTennis: Spartans Defeat Western

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team looked to rebound from a loss against the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes last weekend as they hosted their second doubleheader of the season. The Spartans started off the day taking on Western Michigan and picked up the easy 6-1 victory. MSU started off strong, winning the double point and then went on to take five out of the six singles matchups.
The Spartans swept the trio of doubles matches, picking up the first point of the competition. On court two Austin Brooks and Harry Jadun won the first match 8-5. Following them, on court one, Aaron Pfister and Drew Lied defeated Indre and VanderPloeg 8-3, and Gijs Linders and Denis Bogatov rounded out the Spartan doubles wins picking up an 8-3 victory as well, over Blomberg and Oliarez.
Singles play was a bit more challenging for the Spartans. Wong defeated Harry Jadun on court six by a score of 6-3, 6-3 to gain the first point for the Broncos. But MSU battles back with five consecutive victories. Gijs Linders won a tough match on court five 6-3, 7-5. Denis Bogatov was then able to pick up a win on court two by a score of 6-2, 6-3.
Aaron Pfister kept things going for the Spartans as he won 7-6, 6-3 over Indre on court one. He was followed by a 7-5, 6-4 victory for Austin Brooks on court three over Blomberg. Drew Lied finished up the match on court four with a hard fought 7-6, 7-5 win over VanderPloeg.
MSU will finish the day against Dayton at 6 p.m. at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
