
M. Tennis Opens Stan Drobac Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Under inclement weather, the Michigan State men's tennis team opened the Stan Drobac Invitational at the MSU Indoor Tennis Courts with three doubles matches on Friday, as they faced Toldeo, Detroit, and Western Michigan. The Spartans split matches against Toldeo, took three of four against Detroit and earned two victories against the Broncos of Western Michigan.
In the first match of the afternoon, junior Denis Bogatov and senior Austin Brooks earned an 8-6 victory over Sarria and Stillman. Earning the other victory over the Rockets was sophomore Drew Lied and junior Christian Roehmer, who defeated Cona and Weigand, 8-4.
In the next match, the Spartans took three of four matches against the Titans of Detroit. Bogatov and Brooks earned their second victory of the day with an 8-3 win over Latosinsky and Basha. Senior Ronnie Hulewicz paired with junior Will Davis to defeat Nunez and Escobar 9-8 (4). Lied and Roehmer earned the final victory against the Titans, as they defeated Streeter and Cheung 8-6.
The Spartans earned two victories in their final match against Western Michigan, as Ronnie Hulewicz and Will Davis earned their second victory of the day with an 9-7 win over Olivarez and Wong. Earning the other victory for the Spartans was Lied and Roehmer, who took down Montasser and Shideler 8-6. Freshman Doug Zade and sophomore Ryan Richmond defeated Detroit's Tolomei and Foreman in the final match, 8-1.
The Spartans will continue action tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the MSU Indoor Tennis Courts.
