
Spartans Down EMU, 1-0, in Exhibition

East Lansing, Mich. - The MSU women's soccer team got a victory in its exhibition game on Saturday evening at Eastern Michigan, as a goal by Kelsey Kassab in the 53rd minute stood as all the offense the Spartans would need in a 1-0 victory.
The Spartans launched 29 shots on net, limiting the Eagles to just nine, including six in the second half. MSU also held an edge in corner kicks, 8-1. The two EMU keepers combined for four saves, two in each half. MSU's keepers made three stops in splitting the shutout.
Kassab, one of two Spartan players to play all 90 minutes in the exhibition (the other was sophomore Annie Steinlage), got the game's only goal on a restart just after the 53rd minute began. She launched the kick 30 yards for the score.
MSU played 22 players in the exhibition tilt, including a pair of goalkeepers. Jill Flietstra played the opening 45 minutes for the Spartans, making one save. Courtney Clem played the second half, making two stops.
Junior Olivia Stander had five shots on the afternoon, the most of any MSU player. Newomer Paige Wester had three, while starter Miki Dennis also had three and freshman Megan Marsack had three off the bench.

The Spartans will have a week of practice before officially opening their season next Friday at DeMartin Stadium. MSU will host Milwaukee at 5 p.m. in the first regulation game of the season for both teams.
