
Men's Tennis Tops PSU, 4-3

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 60 Michigan State men's tennis team earned is first conference victory today (April 10) as it took down the Nittany Lions of Penn State, 4-3. Despite failing to secure the doubles point, the Spartans earned four points in singles play, sealing the Spartans 15th victory of the season.
MSU earned its one victory in doubles play at the No. 2 position, where senior John Stratton and freshman Drew Lied took down Young and Lee, 8-7 (9-7). The Lions earned the other two as Bourchier and Bader defeated junior Austin Brooks and freshman Aaron Pfister, 8-3. Seniors Jason Norville and Clark Richardson were topped in the No. 3 position by Welnetz and Hasyn, 8-5.
Pfister and Stratton helped gain back momentum for the Spartans in singles action as Pfister took down Welnetz, 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 4 position, while Stratton defeated Hasyn in the No. 5 position, 6-3, 6-4. The final two points were earned by Lied and sophomore Denis Bogatov in the No. 6 and 1 positions, respectively. Lied took down Young in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5, while Bogatov defeated Lee in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5.
The Spartans return to action next weekend when they host the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday, April 16 at 12 p.m., and Illinois on Sunday, April 17 also at 12 p.m. Both matches are scheduled to be played at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
