
Pfister Crowned Big Ten Indoor Champion

IOWA CITY, IA - Sophomore Aaron Pfister capped off an impressive weekend for the Michigan State men's tennis team today by defeating Illinois' Stephen Hoh in the finals match to be crowned the singles Big Ten Indoor Champion. Pfister fell early in the first set 1-4, but was able to rebound and earn the victory in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Pfister defeated Dierckx of Iowa earlier in the day in the round of four with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Pfister concluded the weekend without losing a single set, going a perfect 12-0 in his six single victories. Pfister also finished play this weekend with the most combined wins in singles and doubles play, tallying an impressive 9 overall wins. Pfister earned three victories in doubles play with senior Austin Brooks in the A flight.
In the singles main flight, Stephen Hoh of Illinois prevented an all- Spartan finals match by defeating sophomore Drew Lied in the semifinal round 6-1, 6-2.
Overall, the Spartans earned 23 singles victories over the weekend, with 14 of them coming in the A flight and sophomores Aaron Pfister and Drew Lied combining for 11 of those wins. MSU notched an additional seven victories in doubles play, with five coming in the A flight main and back draws.
The Spartans will continue action in 2012, when they kickoff the dual match regular season in East Lansing with a triple header when they host Wright State, Bradley and Morehead State on January 14.
