
MTennis Wraps Up Second Day at Big Ten Indoors

IOWA CITY, IA - The Michigan State men's tennis team began singles play on Saturday at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, ending the day with nine overall victories in the main and back draws. Sophomores Drew Lied and Aaron Pfister both earned two victories in the main draw to advance to Sunday's final action.
Pfister took down Chase Tomlins of Iowa in the first round with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 victory before defeating Tasic of Indiana 7-5, 6-2. Pfister will face Petrone of Michigan tomorrow. Lied took down Will Vasos of Iowa 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, and followed the victory with a second-round win against Ramirez of Minnesota 6-2, 6-1. Lied will face Larsen of Wisconsin on Sunday morning.
Five other Spartans earned first-round victories, as junior Denis Bogatov topped Gilmore of Iowa 6-2, 6-4 before falling in the second round to Brown of Michigan 6-4, 6-4. Senior Austin Brooks topped Toledo of Minnesota 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round before dropping to Kopinski of Illinois in three sets.
Senior Ronnie Hulewicz topped Swank of Iowa in convincing fashion 6-2, 6-2 before falling in the second round to Hoh of Illinois. Freshman Gijs Linders earned a victory in the back draw, as he defeated Poziomski of Purdue 6-3, 6-7 (10-6), while junior Will Davis earned the second back draw victory, defeating White of Iowa 6-7, 6-4 (10-2).
Singles action will continue Sunday morning with the completion of the main and back draw quarterfinals before Monday's final championship round.
