Spartans in Fifth After River Landing Intercollegiate Friday Action

WALLACE, N.C. - The Michigan State men's golf team returned to stroke play this weekend, currently in fifth place at 1-over par 577 through 36 holes of the River Landing Intercollegiate on Friday. Senior Jack Newman has paced the Spartans with a 1-under par 143 to sit in a tie for 14th.
North Carolina and co-host UNC Wilmington lead the field at River Landing Country Club with opening day scores of 11-under par 565. UNCW's Josh Brock is the 36-hole individual leader at 6-under 138 after back-to-back 69s.
Newman opened with a first round 1-over 73 and concluded play with a second round 2-under 70. Both senior Andrew Ladwig and freshman James Ross posted rounds of 75 and 70 to be among a group tied in 21st place at 1-over par 145. Sophomore Chris Mory (72-75) and freshman Matthew Moseley (74-73) are tied for 32nd at 3-over 147. Sophomore Dave Ellis is playing as an individual and is tied for 66th at 10-over 154 (80-74) after the first day.
The third and final round is set to tee off at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
