
Women's Tennis Falls to Cal Poly, 6-1

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Michigan State women's tennis team (5-6) continued action when it traveled to San Luis Obispo, Calif. for a match against Cal Poly today (March 9). The Spartans fell behind early, losing the doubles point, and were unable to gain momentum in singles action, falling to the Mustangs, 6-1. Junior Whitney Wilson led all Spartans on the day with a win in both singles and doubles action.
Wilson began the day partnered with freshman Amy Barton and downed the 59th-ranked tandem of Steffi Wong and Alexa Lee, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles. The Spartan tandem is currently riding a five-match win streak, while boasting a perfect 7-0 at the No. 2 position.
In singles action, Wilson earned the lone Spartan win when she again defeated Wong at No. 3 singles, 2-6, 6-2, 10-6. With the win, Wilson extends her win streak to five matches, going 7-3 in her last 10 completed matches.
Freshman Nicole Herzog fell in a hard fought three-set match to No. 93 Suzie Matzenauer, 6-0, 4-6, 6-0.
MSU is back in action Thursday (March 11) when it travels to Santa Clara, Calif. for a 5 p.m. ET match against the Broncos.
