
Women's Tennis Falls to Santa Clara, 6-1

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Michigan State women's tennis team closed out action in the state of California when it fell, 6-1, to Santa Clara on Thursday, March 11. The Spartans fall to 5-7 on the year, while the Broncos are now 8-3 overall on the season.
Extending their win-streak to six straight matches was the tandem of junior Whitney Wilson and freshman Amy Barton in the No. 2 doubles position. Wilson and Barton topped Alex Zaniewski and Carmen Pham, 8-2, bringing their record to 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles slot on the year.
Freshman Michaela Silesova earned the lone Spartan point for the team at No. 1 singles. Silesova topped Kelly Lamble by a score of 4-6. 7-6 (10), 10-6. The win marks the first for the freshman in the No. 1 position.
Fellow freshman Nicole Herzog fell in a hard fought three-set match to Zaniewski. After winning the first set 6-3, Herzog dropped the final two sets, 4-6, 8-10, to fall at No. 2 singles.
The Spartans will open Big Ten competition on Saturday, March 20, when they host rival Michigan at 2 p.m.
