FULLERTON, Calif. - The Michigan State gymnastics team (10-5) topped Cal State Fullerton, 194.850-191.250 on Friday, March 12 in California. The Spartans were led by senior Rochelle Robinson and her three individual event crowns on the night.
The Spartans saw junior Nicole Argiros and Robinson tie for first on the vault with scores of 9.850. Senior Nicole Curler tied with Shelly Cooper of Fullerton for third with a 9.775 mark. As a team, MSU topped the Titans 48.875 to 48.600.
The Green and White continued their strong effort on the bars with Robinson once again taking the event crown with a score of 9.825. Curler posted a second-place finish with a 9.800 mark, tying with Alaina Baker of CSF. MSU once again topped Cal State Fullerton as a team, 48.825-48.775.
Robinson completed the sweep for the Spartans when she posted a first-place score of 9.825 on the beam. Freshman Shanthi Teike finished second (9.775), while sophomore Jackie Berg placed third (9.700). The Green and White proved to be too strong for the Titans, topping CSF 48.575-46.500.
MSU was led on the floor by Curler with her score of 9.850, good enough for second place on the event. Teike followed suit in third with a 9.775 mark, while Baker of Fullerton won the event crown with a 9.900 score. The Spartans completed the sweep over CSF with a score of 48.575 to 47.375.
Baker took first in the all-around with a score of 39.075. Curler recorded a score of 39.050 while Teike posted a 39.025 mark, good enough for second and third, respectively.
The Spartans are back in action on Sunday, March 14, when they travel to Los Angeles, Calif. for a tri-meet with UCLA and Fullerton at 5 p.m.
