EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's basketball team lost at Iowa on Sunday afternoon, 77-66, to end its four-game winning streak. The Spartans (15-8, 6-6) were led by 13 points from senior Allyssa DeHaan, who also posted four blocks to pull within one of tying the NCAA Division I all-time blocked shots record.
The game began with an offensive jolt as the Spartans hit their first five shots, but Iowa (12-11, 5-7) made six of its first 10 attempts to hold a 13-12 lead five minutes in. Both teams would score only two points apiece over the next 6:05 before a Kamille Wahlin 3-pointer gave Iowa its largest lead of the first half, 18-14, with 9:03 left.
MSU would run off the next seven points, led by five from DeHaan, and nine of the next 11, to open a 23-20 lead, which would turn out to be its largest of the afternoon. The Hawkeyes bounced back to run off five unanswered to regain the lead, before a DeHaan layup ended a 3-minute drought by the Spartans and tied the game at 25 with 2:35 on the clock.
After matching baskets, Iowa would go into the break with a 30-29 advantage.
A steal and layup by freshman Jasmine Thomas in the first 20 seconds of the second half, gave Michigan State a quick lead after the break. However, the Hawkeyes scored the next 10 points over 3:09 to take the lead for good.
Iowa would push its lead to as much as 15 and MSU would cut it back to single digits late in the game, but were unable to get closer than six points. The Spartans eventually fell, 77-66.
Redshirt senior Aisha Jefferson and Jasmine Thomas each added 12 points for the Spartans. Junior Brittney Thomas set a career high with 10 assists, the most by a Spartan since Kristin Haynie posted 10 on March 27, 2005 against Vanderbilt.
Kachine Alexander led five Hawkeyes in double-figures with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday at Michigan for a 7 p.m. tip.
NOTES:
- DeHaan now has 479 career blocks, one shy of tying Sandora Irvin for the NCAA record.

- Jefferson moved into 15th place on both the MSU career points (1,113) and rebounds (617) lists.
