
Spartans Conclude Day Two at ITA Regionals

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team continued action today (Oct. 22) at the ITA regional tournament in both singles and doubles play.
The Spartans concluded action in the qualifying rounds with freshmen Aaron Pfister falling to Montasser of Western Michigan, 6-2, 6-2, and senior John Stratton suffering a third round loss to Buzzi of Michigan, 6-3, 7-5.
In doubles play, Pfister and fellow freshman Drew Lied suffered a first round loss to Andrews and Stahl of Notre Dame, 8-3. The senior tandem of Stratton and Austin Brooks earned a victory in their first match, taking down Race and Hilgert of Eastern Illinois, 8-3, while sophomore Denis Boagtov and junior Ronnie Hulewicz earned another Spartan victory by defeating Deherra and Stump of Valparaiso, 8-2. Hulewicz and Bogatov will face Robles and Teppert of Wisconsin tomorrow, while Stratton and Brooks will match up against Graves and Wolf of Northwestern.
Fellow seniors Clark Richardson and Jason Norville lost to Litkumchorn and Sarria of Toledo, 8-3, while sophomores Will Davis and Christian Roehmer also suffered a loss, falling to Nunez and Cheung of Detroit, 8-4.
In the main singles draw, Bogatov earned a first-round victory over Sean Tan of Notre Dame in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Hulewicz, the other Spartan representative in the main flight, lost to Pecor of Notre Dame, 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-1.
The Spartans will continue action tomorrow with main draw singles action beginning at 8 a.m., followed by consolation and doubles matches.
