COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Michigan State gymnastics team concluded the 2009 season with a fourth place finish at the NCAA Central Regional held inside of St. John Arena on the campus of Ohio State University Saturday evening. It marked the fourth time the Spartans have finished fourth at the NCAA Regionals, and MSU has finished in fourth place or better in 10 of their 18 appearances at the Regionals.

LSU won the regional with a 196.875, advancing to the NCAA Championships, along with Oregon State, who just trailed with a 196.800. Big Ten foe Ohio State took third with a 195.950, while Michigan State posted a 194.825. Kent State (194.650) and Kentucky (193.700) rounded out the competition.

For the first rotation, the Spartans started on balance beam. MSU struggled on the apparatus, totaling a 48.200. Junior Nicole Curler and sophomore Kelsey Morley both posted a 9.800, finishing tied for 11th overall, and freshman Jackie Berg registered a 9.725.

After a bye, MSU continued on floor exercise, posting a 49.050, the third best score among the six teams. Curler and sophomore Kathryn Mahoney led the Spartans, both posting a 9.850 and tying for seventh overall. Senior Katlyn Roggensack notched a 9.825 and sophomore Nicole Argiros added a 9.775.

MSU moved to vault for rotation four. Roggensack and junior Rochelle Robinson both registered a 9.850, tying for eighth overall and helping the Spartans to a 49.075. Curler and Morley both posted a 9.800 and Argiros notched a 9.775.

After a final bye, the Spartans finished competition on uneven bars, posting a 48.500. Robinson scored a team-high 9.875, placing fourth overall, and Argiros tallied a 9.775.

Curler and Roggensack competed in the all-around for the Spartans, with Curler posting a 39.150 to place seventh overall, while Roggensack tallied a 38.400.
