
Spartans Travel To Purdue

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team travels to West Lafayette, Ind., for the final road match of the dual season. MSU takes on Purdue Saturday with play beginning at 12 p.m. MSU is currently 12-10 overall and 0-7 in the Big Ten.
The Last Match
The Spartans fell, 7-0, to No. 47 Michigan on Wednesday, April 8 at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. Senior John Allare (Masonville, Ohio) and junior Jason Norville (Farmington Hills, Mich.) partnered to pick up the lone win for the Green and White. The duo defeated the No. 51 doubles pairing of Jason Jung and George Navaz, 8-6, at the No. 1 position, improving to 14-8 on the season. Allare and Norville hold a 5-7 record at the No. 1 position in doubles action and a 7-0 mark at No. 2.
Scouting Michigan State
Freshman Ronnie Hulewicz (Tequesta, Fla.) leads the team with a 17-4 record in singles. Hulewicz plays primarily at the No. 5 position and holds a record of 13-4 at that position but is 3-0 at the No.4 position and 1-0 at the No. 3 position. He is 4-3 against Big Ten opponents and before falling to Iowa, Hulewicz was riding an 11-match win streak. Hulewicz is also 8-2 in his last ten matches. He also picked up the only Spartan singles wins during MSU's three matches in California over spring break.
The doubles tandem of Allare and Norville have a team-best 12-7 record. Playing at the No. 1 spot, the duo has a 5-7 record at the second position has a 7-0 record. The pair has defeated two ranked doubles teams; No. 55 Christian Bierich and Nikita Zotov of Iowa, 9-8, and No. 41 Balazs Novak and Steven Moneke of Ohio State, 8-7.
Scouting Purdue
Purdue currently stands at 6-12 overall in dual play and 0-6 in the Big Ten. This match marks the 68th meeting between the two schools. Purdue leads the all-time series, 40-27. The two teams last met during the 2008 season with Purdue defeated Michigan State, 6-1. The Boilermakers are coached by Tim Madden and assistant coach Troy Han.

MSU will conclude the 2009 dual season at home next weekend, with Indiana on Saturday, April 18 and Illinois on Sunday, April 18. Play begins at noon both days.
