Cross Country Continues Action at Michigan Intercollegiate Open

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State cross country team will compete in the Michigan Intercollegiate Open in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Friday, Oct. 9. The meet is hosted my Calvin College and will feature 28 schools. The women's 5K race is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. with the men's 8K race following at 4:15 p.m.
The Spartan women, who are currently ranked second in the Great Lakes Region and 24th nationally, have not competed since Sept. 26, when they finished third at the Griak Invitational in Minneapolis Minn. Junior Emily MacLeod (Loveland, Ohio), finished first for the Spartans with a time of 21:41, and fourth overall. Close behind was sophomore Carlie Green (Milford, Mich.), clocking in at 21:44.
The Spartan men are ranked sixth in the Great Lakes Region have also not competed as a team since the Griak Invitational, when MSU finished sixth overall. Junior Patrick Grosskopf (Corunna, Mich.) paced the Spartans at the Griak, turning in a time of 25:10, while finishing 15th overall. Junior Spencer Beatty (Harbor Springs, Mich.) placed 20th, and second for the men, finishing with a time of 25:19.
