MSU Cross Country Has Strong Showing at Nuttycombe Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State cross country had a strong showing at the prestigious Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, Oct. 9, at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
Three of the top-five ranked women's teams were in Madison, along with three of the top five men's teams.
The No. 18 men's cross country team finished 15th in the highly-competitive field with 435 points. New Mexico finished first with 59 points. Michigan State was third among Big Ten teams behind Wisconsin (9th) and Minnesota (14th).
Thomas Westphal was the top Spartan finisher in the 8k race with a personal-best time 23:18.6 to finish 33rd. Moses Osterink was 73rd with a time of 23:42.7, just shy of his PR. Riley Hough was the third MSU athlete to cross the line in 23:43.8. Michael Hegarty (23:59.2) and Beckett Crooks (24:08.2) were the final two scorers on the men's side. Crooks earned a new personal best.
In the women's 6k race, Michigan State finished 26th in the championship race with 616 points. West Virginia finished first with 66 points.
Freshman Klaire Eighner was the top Spartan finisher finishing 55th with a time of 20:24.0, which was a new season best. Taylor Pangburn finished 93rd, just off her personal best with a time of 20:44.9. Allie Nowak and Maya Ledesma were the next to cross the line in 20:58.0 and 21:23.3, respectively. The final Spartan scorer was Anjali Kidambi with a time of 21:37.1.
MSU also ran in the men's and women's B races. The Spartan men were sixth in the B race with 129 points. Parker Lambers was the top Spartan finishing 19th with a time of 24:15.5. Seth Norder ran a 24:25.5, which was a new career best.
The women also finished sixth in the B race with 155 points. Paige Marchant finished 22nd with a time of 21:15.3. Katrina Ford set a new PR with a time of 21:41.4.
Michigan State returns to the Mitten State to compete in the EMU Fall Classic in Ypsilanti, Michigan on Friday, Oct. 23.
