Westphal Named Big Ten Cross Country Athlete of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Sophomore Thomas Westphal was named Big Ten Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
This is the second-straight week that a Spartan has captured Athlete of the Week honors after Jasper Cane earned the accolade last week.
Westphal, who hails from Fair Haven, Michigan, was the 2025 Big Ten Freshman of the Week last season.  He  finished sixth overall at the John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana with an 8K time of 23:54.6. Westphal helped Michigan State finish sixth as a team, which was best among other Big Ten teams.
The last season, Westphal earned Freshman of the Week honors twice.
Michigan State be back in action on Friday, Oct. 9 at the Nuttycombe Invitational.
