Men's Tennis Wraps up Second Day of Drobac Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team concluded the second day of the Stan Drobac Invite, Oct. 10, at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. Sophomores Ronnie Hulewicz (Tequesta, Fla.) and Austin Brooks (Houston, Texas) each picked up three wins for the Green and White, along with senior Jason Norville (Farmington Hills, Mich.)
Playing at No. 3 singles, Hulewicz battled Ryan Hamning of Cleveland State, topping him, 6-3, 3-6, 10-3. He went on to defeat Mike Rohana of Dayton at the No. 1 spot, 6-4, 6-3, and then Paul Swanson of Green Bay, 6-3, 6-0, also at the No. 1 position.
Brooks dominated play against Aris Spirtos of CSU, defeating him 6-2, 6-0, and then posted a victory over Robert Saleedo of Dayton, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot. Against Mat Nelson of Green Bay, Brooks outlasted him, 6-1, 4-6, 10-6, at No. 2.
Norville also contributed to the three undefeated Spartans throughout the day by first defeating JJ Haley of CSU. The first two sets were, 6-1, 4-6, but Norville came back in the super tie-braker, 10-6, to top Haley. At the No. 2 spot, against Dayton, Norville posted a victory over Austin Weigand, 6-3, 6-1, and finished the day by defeating Marko Skoric of Green Bay, 7-6(5), 6-0.
Against CSU, junior Clark Richardson (Leawood, Kan.) also picked up a win for MSU at the No. 7 spot, after topping Jay Jones, 3-6, 6-4, 10-4. Freshmen Denis Bogatov (Gurnee, Ill.) and Will Davis (Louisville, Ky.) and junior John Stratton (Monroeville, N.J.) all picked up wins against Dayton. Bogatov picked up the only sweep of the day defeating Joe West, 6-0, 6-0. The Spartans didn't allow one Green Bay opponent to earn a win in the third round.
Play will begin tomorrow, Oct. 11, with doubles beginning at 9 a.m. at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. If weather permits, singles play will be moved to the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts at 12 p.m. If not, action will remain indoors for singles play as well.
