
Women's Tennis Concludes Day Two at Purdue Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team finished day two at the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind., compiling a 17-3 record at the Schwartz Tennis Center on Nov. 8. Leading the way for the green and white was senior Stephanie Kebler (Okemos, Mich.), who opened the singles portion of the invitational on Friday with a win over Natalia Sanchez of Cornell, 6-3, 6-0.
Kebler also partnered with senior Ana Milosavljevic (Johannesburg, South Africa) on Friday to post a doubles victory over Tamara John and Elizabeth Googe of Cornell, 8-5. Milosavljevic also faced John in singles action, posting a victory 6-1, 6-3.
Also on Friday, sophomores Manon Noe (Liancort, France) and Whitney Wilson (Evansville, Ind.) teamed to take on Sanchez and Stephanie Kent of Cornell. The two posted a 9-8 (5) win over the tandem from Cornell. The doubles success did not end there as freshman Elena Ivanova (Moscow, Russia) and sophomore Ally Wickman (Grand Rapids, Mich.) were victorious over Sinziana Chis and Ruxandra Dumitrescu of Cornell, 8-5.
The Spartans singles success also continued on Friday. Sophomore Lindsey Lonergan (Cincinnati, Ohio) defeated Dumitrescu of Cornell, 7-5, 6-4. Also victorious in singles action was Ivanova, who posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Shayna Miller of Cornell. Freshman Dana Guentert (Lilburn, Ga.), won 7-5, 6-2 over Kay Kay Magi of Purdue, while Wilson won, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 over Googe of Cornell, rounding out the singles victories for the Spartans.
On Saturday, Kebler and Milosavljevic once again partnered to take on Jessica Lange and Sharon Siegal of Tulane. The two Spartans were once again posted a victory, this time in dominating fashion, winning 8-0. Also on Saturday, Kebler was able to post her second victory of the invitational by posting a 6-2, 6-0 win over Lindsay Dvorak of Tulane.
Wilson and Noe also continued their first-day success by posting a win over Dvorak and Caroline Gerber of Tulane, 8-2. Picking up their first double victories of the tournament were Lonergan and Guentert. The two partnered to defeat Marcela Fonseca of Tulane and Jackie Kolman of Miami University, 8-1.
In Saturday's singles action, Noe was able to able to pull out a victory over Marcela Fonseca of Tulane, 7-6 (3), 6-0. Also picking up a singles win was Ivanova, who defeated Lange of Tulane, 6-3, 6-1. Guentert was also able to continue her first day singles success as she was able to defeat Siegel of Tulane, 6-2, 6-1. Rounding out singles play was Wickman, posting a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kolman of Miami University.
The Spartans will be back in action Sunday morning as they will conclude play at the Purdue Invitational.
