Men's Tennis Completes Day One at Notre Dame Invite

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The men's tennis team completed the first day play at the Notre Dame Invite with five singles wins. Three of four doubles teams also picked up wins, with sophomore John Stratton (Monroeville, N.J.) leading the team with two singles and a doubles win.
Stratton defeated Takashi Yoshii of Notre Dame in a tiebreaker, and downed Derek Carpenter of Ball State in straight sets to begin the day with two wins.
Sophomore Clark Richardson (Leawood, Kan.) posted a 1-1 record in singles and freshman Austin Brooks (Houston, Texas) downed Pablo Olivarez of Western Michigan in a tie breaker. Junior Jason Norville (Farmington Hills, Mich) recorded the other singles victory for the Spartans, downing Patrick Callaghan of Notre Dame.
The doubles team of Richardson/Scott Rasmussen defeated Schafer/Brodess of Notre Dame, 8-3. Brooks/Stratton picked up a 9-8 tiebreaker win in doubles, while John Allare/Alex Forger downed Muskievicz/Rassow-Kantor of Wisconsin.
Michigan State continues play at the Notre Dame Invite tomorrow, beginning at 10 a.m. The Spartans will face Ball State and Wisconsin in doubles play, and Notre Dame in singles action.
