EAST LANSING, Mich. - Junior Alissa McKaig of the Michigan State cross country team was named today as the Big Ten Co-Runner of the Week. McKaig captured first place in the Jeff Drenth Memorial for the second straight year with a time of 17:37.
"Alissa worked hard this summer," said associate head coach Rita Arndt-Molis. "She helped her teammates through the first two miles and then it looked like she was shot out of a cannon."
The native of Fort Wayne, Ind., also was named the Big Ten Runner of the Week last year after winning the same race. She also placed 10th in the NCAA Championship Meet with a time of 21:06.7 last year.
The Spartan Invitational, which McKaig won last year, will be held on Friday, Sept. 14.
