EAST LANSING, Mich. - Senior Heather Rose was named an All-American Scholar by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA), as announced on Monday. This is the third time Rose has won the award and she becomes the 24th Spartan to receive the honor.
"Heather has been a wonderful ambassador for Michigan State University and time and time again has proven that she is a stellar student-athlete," head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll said. "We are proud to have her as a Spartan and are extremely proud of her accomplishments both on and off the course."
A total of 368 women's collegiate golfers were recognized with this prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent of the college's regularly-scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
Rose, a finance major, had her best season with a career-low 76.72 strokes per round in her final year. She had her best finishes when she tied for fifth at both the Lady Northern with a 223 (77-75-71) and the Wolverine Invitational with a 225 (76-76-73). She led the Spartans with a tie for 20th at the Northrop Grumman with a 226 (76-77-73), earning Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors for the performance. The three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection also finished in the top 20 at the Big Ten Tournament for the third time in her career, finishing 14th with a 309 (78-81-74-76) and she tied for 25th at the NCAA Central Regionals with a three-round total of 226.
