Freshman Allyssa DeHaan finished the game with one blocked shot, giving her 145 on the season, a Big Ten single-season record and a Division I freshman record ... She finished the season with the seventh-most rejections in NCAA history.
Seniors Victoria Lucas-Perry and Rene Haynes finished their careers with 1, 184 and 1,183 points respectively, the 11th and 12th-best marks in school history ... Lucas-Perry had a team-high 17 points and Haynes had 14.
Senior Rene Haynes hit her first four shots of the game, including two field goals and two free throws, accounting for six points before missing a layup with 9:41 left in the first half.
Seniors Victoria Lucas-Perry (six points) and Rene Haynes (nine points) accounted for 60 percent of the Spartans' 25 points in the first half.
Senior Myisha Bannister finished with one blocked shot ... She has four blocked shots during the Spartans' two NCAA Tournament games this year, the second-best total in school history, three behind freshman Allyssa DeHaan's seven.
After being outrebounded 42-23 to Rutgers in the teams' match on Jan. 28, Michigan State outrebounded the Scarlet Knights, 22-16, in the first half, despite playing the last 10:29 without DeHaan, who was on the bench with two fouls ... It was only the second time in 19 games this season that the Spartans won the rebounding war and lost (70-60 loss to Purdue on Jan. 14).
DeHaan, after being held scoreless for the first 27 minutes, scored four in a row on a turnaround jumper in the lane and two free throws, cutting Rutgers' lead to nine. Haynes added a free throw and a fast break layup to cap the Spartans' 7-0 run.
Seniors Rene Haynes and Victoria Lucas-Perry have appeared in more NCAA Tournament games (13) than any other Spartans ... Liz Shimek and Lindsay Bowen (Class of 2006) had the previous best of 12.
After fouling out with 1:57 left, senior Rene Haynes received a standing ovation from the crowd ... She finished with 14 points, three rebounds and an assist.
Michigan State is now 2-5 all-time in NCAA Tournament Second Round games.
Michigan State's senior class (Myisha Bannister, Katrina Grantham, Rene Haynes and Victoria Lucas-Perry) finished their career with a 103-32 (.763) record.
The crowd of 8,056 is the 16th-largest to witness a women's basketball game at the Breslin Center.
