Big Ten Tournament Television Schedule
Today's semifinals will be played at noon and 2 p.m. and will be televised by the Big Ten Network. Saturday's championship game will be covered by CSTV and is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
Yesterday
No. 2 seed Michigan State dominated the opening game of the Big Ten Tournament with a convincing win over the No. 7 seed Northwestern Wildcats on Thursday morning. MSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead early and never looked back, defeating the Wildcats 4-1.
Six different players scored goals for Iowa, as it defeated Indiana, 8-2, on Thursday. The Hawkeyes' eight goals tied a Big Ten Tournament single-game record, set by Penn State in 2000.
Fantastic Four
Four differnt players scored goals for MSU in yesterday's matchup. Senior Kathryn Elenz-Martin (her ninth of the season), Jantine Steinmetz (14th), Amy Schneider (fourth), and Floor Rijpma (11th).
Tournament History
MSU is 1-5 all-time against the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten Tournament. The Spartans have lost by one goal in three of the last five games, with two games going into overtime - including one double overtime contest. MSU and Iowa last met in the Tournament in 2004, when Iowa defeated Michigan State 1-0 (OT).
How They Got Here
MSU and Iowa met on Oct. 27, in the last regular-season Big Ten game. With Big Ten Tournament seeding on the line, Michigan State, defeated the Hawkeyes 1-0, and earned the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.
Scouting the Hawkeyes
Lauren Pheiffer has scored 14 goals and six assists on the season, totaling 34 points. She leads the Hawkeyes in points and goals, and ranks second in assists.
Hawkeye goalkeeper Elissa Munley has started all 18 games and recorded a 14-2 record. She has posted a 1.20 goals against average and a .686 save percentage.
A Look At The Spartans
Sophomore Jeamie Deacon leads the Spartans on offense scoring 32 points on the year, scoring 12 goals, and recording eight assists.
Freshman Jantine Steinmetz ranks first on the team with 14 goals, and has added one assist on the year to tie her for fourth on the team (with sophomore Floor Rijpma) with 29 points.
Goalkeeper Elissa Unger has a 15-3 record, while posting a 1.24 goals against average and a.723 save percentage.
