EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State's women's golf head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll announced her fall signees for the Class of 2012, a group that includes Lindsey Solberg and Shannon Warner.
"We are thrilled to be adding two talented, wonderful young women to our program for 2008-09," said Slobodnik-Stoll. "Both Shannon and Lindsey are seasoned players who have had great success in their junior careers. We look forward to having them as members of the Spartan family."
Solberg, a Verona, Wis., native, boasts two Wisconsin PGA Junior Player of the Year honors in addition to tallying numerous top finishes in elite tournaments. Solberg, the 2006 Wisconsin State Division I high school champion and 2007 runner-up, played on the AJGA tour, earning three top-three finishes in 2007 and two top-four finishes in 2006.
In 2006-07, Solberg posted a win and three top-six finishes in the PGA/Callaway Series, while also adding three wins and two top-four finishes on the FCWT Junior Golf Tour. In 2006, she placed fourth and fifth at the Wisconsin Women's State Golf Association Stroke Play and the Women's Western Golf Association's Western Open, respectively. A 2006 US Girls qualifier, Solberg also carded the lowest round (65) ever shot by a high school male or female in Wisconsin.
Joining Solberg is Shannon Warner, a two-time Michigan Division I high school champion from Livonia, Mich. Warner became an exceptional golfer at a young age, qualifying for the USGA Women's Amateur Public Links at 13 years old. Most recently, the `Spring 2007 Miss Golf of Michigan' finished second at the 2007 AJGA Randy Wise/Buick Junior Open, and won the 2007 GAM Girls Junior Amateur Stroke Play with 144 (70-74). Additionally, Warner holds the lowest score in a Michigan high school two-day tournament, having carded a 136 (69-67) at the state championships in 2006.
