TULSA, Okla. - Michigan State's top doubles duo, seniors Nick Rinks and Adam Monich, lost an 8-1 match to Denver's Adam Holmstrom and Niklas Persson on Saturday afternoon at the ITA All-American Invite in Tulsa, Okla. The loss eliminates the Spartans from the tournament, which included the top players in the country.
Just one day after defeating the nation's fourth-ranked doubles team, Rinks and Monich couldn't get on track early against the No. 23 doubles combo.
"We got off to a slow start, and dug ourselves into a hole early," head coach Gene Orlando said. "That was a very good team we faced. Now, we know where we stand nationally and we can move on."
Rinks and Monich, ranked 14th in the nation in doubles, will next compete at the ITA Midwest Regional in Minneapolis, Minn., beginning on Oct. 18. Rinks will also be in the main singles draw at the midwest regional.
