
Women's Golf Prepares For The Landfall Tradition

East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State's women's golf team will participate in the sixth annual Landfall Tradition, played on the 72-par (6,072 yards) Jack Nicklaus Course at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.. The field of 12 women's teams will vie for the title in the three-day, 54-hole event hosted by the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Michigan State is joined by UNC Wilmington, UNC Greensboro, UNC Chapel Hill, Michigan, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Tulsa, Virginia and Wake Forest.
First round action will begin Friday, Oct. 26 at 9:12 a.m. as each team will play 18 holes. The same schedule is set for Saturday and Sunday.
The tournament's field is exceptionally strong, featuring eight teams ranked in Golfweek's Top 50; the Boilermakers hold down the No. 12 spot, followed by Wake Forest (18), Michigan State (22), Virginia (25), UNC (28), N.C. State (34), Tulsa (40) and Ohio State (43). Six individuals appear in the rankings, as well, led by Purdue's Maria Hernandez checking in at No. 15, while other entries include Laura Kueny of Michigan State (18th), Lene Krog of Virginia (26th), Christina Boeljon of Purdue (30th), Callie Nielsen of Virginia (39th) and Wake Forest's Natalie Sheary (40th).
The last time out, MSU tied for 11th place with Ohio State at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship. MSU carded a three-day 895 (292-301-302), shooting 43 over par for the weekend at the Cherokee Country Club. Sophomore Kueny posted the highest finish for the Spartans, tying for 21st at eight over par (69-73-79--221).
