MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - A pair of Michigan State doubles teams competed in the first day of the ITA Regional Championships on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Senior duo Nick Rinks and Adam Monich won both of their matches, while juniors John Allare and Alex Forger split a pair of doubles contests.
Rinks and Monich began the night with a quick 8-0 win over Marquette's Graydo Klassen and Niko Boulieris. In the second round, the Spartan seniors defeated Xavier combo Chris Herrlinger and Doug Matthews, 8-4.
Allare and Forger won their first match, 8-6, over DePaul's Vanja Grugec and Bartosz Jozwiak before falling to Iowa's J.P. Ritchie and Bart van Maonsjou by the same score.
"We got off to a good start in doubles play," head coach Gene Orlando said. "Hopefully, we can continue in singles play against the top 64 singles players in the Midwest."
The four Spartans will begin tournament singles play on Saturday.
