ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Michigan State's women's tennis will continue action Saturday in the singles main draw at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional hosted by the University of Michigan, as senior Christine Bader and junior Stephanie Kebler return to the court. Freshman Lindsey Lonergan dropped her round of 16 singles match in the qualifying round, while she and freshman partner Manon Noe went 1-1 in the the doubles main draw. Bader and Kebler also competed in the doubles main draw, but fell in round one action.
"Today was a little rough in terms of wins and losses; however, coach Naughton and I were pretty happy with the level we played at today," said head coach Erica Perkins. "I thought Christine Bader and Stephanie Kebler responded well to a tough draw and almost pulled off a good upset."
Lonergan dropped her round of 16 qualifier match to Marquette's Rachael Hush in three hard-fought sets, 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-4. With the loss, Lonergan falls short in moving on to the singles main draw.
In main draw doubles action, Lonergan and Noe picked up a first round win, defeating Akron's duo of Tanya Gombera and Amy Sherlock in a quick 8-1 match. In their round of 16 match, MSU's pair fell to Notre Dame's top-seeded Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft, 8-4.
Bader and Kebler fought hard in their round of 64 doubles match, but fell to Michigan's fifth-seeded tandem of Chisako Sugiyama and Whitney Taney, 8-6.
