Michigan State Swimming And Diving Drops Final Conference Dual

EAST LANSING, Mich. - In their final home meet of the year, both the men and women's swimming and diving teams fell to the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday. The men fell by a score of 202-98, while the women were beaten 187.50-110.50.
Swimming strongly for the men was junior Adam Schmitt, recording victories in the 200 freestyle (1:39.62), 50 freestyle (20.88) and the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 45.02. In addition to Schmitt, freshmen Sho Koba swam to victory in the 500 yard freestyle, touching at 4:36.34.
Meanwhile, swimming to victory for the women were sophomore Marlys Fuqua in the 1000 freestyle (10:26.12), and senior Megan Reponen in the 200 butterfly (2:06.28).
Second-place finishers for the Spartans were: Krzysztof Olszewski in the 1000 freestyle (9:28.60) and 200 IM (1:57.88), and Mara Loniewski in the 200 freestyle (1:54.91).
In the 200 freestyle Koba grabbed second behind teammate Adam Schmitt with a time of 1:39.74.
Also in second place were, Sasha Lewerenz in the 100 (57.59) and 200 (2:07.18) backstroke, Julianne Kahn in the 100 (53.37)and 50 (24.52) freestyles, Jason Vadney in the 200 butterfly (1:55.59), and Laura DeFord in the 200 breastroke (2:24.73).
With the loss, the men's team drops to 1-5, while the women fall back to 2-5-1. Both the men's and women's team will conclude their regular season on Jan. 19 at Oakland University.
