
Monich Bumped From ITA All-American Tournament

TULSA, Okla. - Michigan State junior Adam Monich opened play in the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships with a 6-7 (5), 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over Clay Donato of Texas A&M, in prequalifying, but was unable to carry that momentum through to the third round.
Eliminated in the second round of play, Monich fell to Rook Schellenberg of Texas, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. Schellenberg advanced to the second round after a 6-4, 6-2 defeat over Ondrej Kacmar of Oklahoma. Monich needed three wins to advance to the qualifying round.
Monich will pair up with Spartan teammate Nick Rinks in doubles action at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships, earning a qualifying bid. Monich and Rinks are currently ranked No. 43rd in the nation. Doubles play for the two begins Oct. 2 aginst a opponent to be determined.
Having earned a qualifying bid, Rinks will also begin singles play on Oct. 2. Rinks is ranked 77th in the nation in the preseason ITA poll.
