
Michigan State Competitive At ITA Regional Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State Spartans wrapped up the third day of the ITA Midwest Regional Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Saturday, Oct. 22. Nick Rinks was the only player to advance in the singles main draw from MSU, while two Spartan doubles teams also advanced to Sunday's competition.
In singles action, Rinks earned a first round victory knocking off Paul Glendennig of University of Illinois at Chicago, 6-0, 6-1. Rinks then took down Chris Kingemann of Ohio State, 6-4, 6-2, advancing to round three of the main draw.
Sophomore Adam Monich was knocked out of singles play by No. 11 seeded Ruben Gonzales of Illinois in round one, 7-6 (9), 6-2. Monich, however, returns to play on Sunday having advanced in doubles play on Friday.
Rinks and Monich will team up to face Bellido Felipe and Polley Nolan of Wisconsin in the second round of doubles tomorrow. Freshmen John Allare and Scott Rasmussen will also represent Michigan State competing against Brian Hung and Matko Maravic of Michigan.
