With the 65-46 win over UW-Milwaukee, Michigan State improves its record to 23-9 on the season. The 23 wins on the season is tied for second most in a single season at MSU. The 1976-77 team finished the season with a 23-6 record, while last season's 33-4 mark is the program record.
The win improves the Spartans' record to 5-2 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Making its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance, MSU's overall Tournament record improves to 9-6.

Michigan State limited UW-Milwaukee to 46 points, marking the fifth time this season the Spartans have held their opponent under 50 points. On the season, MSU is 14-0 when holding its opponents to 60 points or less.
Liz Shimek led the Spartans with 27 points, her 13th 20-point effort on the season. MSU holds a 12-1 record when Shimek scores at least 20 points.
Shimek's 27-point effort ranks as the second-highest scoring output in the NCAA Tournament in program history. Eileen Shea holds the record, scoring 35 points vs. Oklahoma State in 1991. Shimek's previous best in tournament action came against Stanford in 2005, when she scored 24 points.
Shimek also grabbed eight rebounds, giving her 1,115 career rebounds and tying her with Ohio State's Tracey Hall (1984-88) for fourth on the Big Ten's all-time rebounding list.
After combining for 10 points in the first half, Shimek and Lindsay Bowen combined for 29 points in the second half. Bowen scored all 12 of her points in the second half, while Shimek scored 17 of her 27 points in the second half.
Michigan State outrebounded UW-Milwaukee 19-8 in the second half. For the game, the Spartans controlled the boards, 35-28. MSU is 21-4 this season when outrebounding its opponent.
The Spartans grabbed 17 offensive boards and scored 18 second-chance points, while the Panthers scored eight points off their seven offensive boards.
MSU converted UW-Milwaukee's 22 turnovers into 22 points, while the Panthers only scored five points off the Spartans' 12 turnovers.
After UW-Milwaukee cut the MSU lead to three points with 11:54 left in the game, the Spartans outscored the Panthers 30-14 to end the game.
The Spartans held UW-Milwaukee's leading scorer, Traci Edwards, to two points and one rebound in the second half. Edwards recorded 11 points and six rebounds in the first half.
