TULSA, Okla. - Michigan State junior Nick Rinks made it two days in-a-row with a singles win at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships, earning a victory over Northwestern's Willy Lock on Oct. 3. The win advances Rinks to the third and final round of the qualifying portion of the tournament. Rinks advanced to the second round yesterday, defeating Tennessee's Ben Rogers.
Entering the tournament ranked No. 77 in the ITA national preseason poll, Rinks defeated conference foe Lock in three sets, 7-6(8), 1-6, 6-3, and improved to 5-0 on the season.
Rinks will look to make it three-in-a-row on Oct. 4, facing California's Pierre Mouillon, who advanced to round three with a 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-4 victory over Hawaii's Andreas Weber. The winner will move on to the main draw pool of 64.
In the first day of doubles qualifying action, Rinks paired up with Michigan State teammate Adam Monich, but did not experience the same success as in singles play. The two suffered an 8-5 doubles loss, eliminated by Southern California's Jason McNaughton-Kaes and Van't Hof.
