* Michigan State claimed its first Big Ten Tournament championship in its first appearance in the championship game.
* Michigan State became the first team to win a Big Ten regular season championship and tournament championship in the same season since 1999 (Purdue).
* Kristin Haynie was named Most Outstanding Player of the Big Ten Tournament, and was joined on the All-Tournament team by fellow senior Kelli Roehrig.
* Michigan State became the fourth No. 2 seed in 11 years to win the Big Ten Tournament.
* Michigan improved to 28-3, extending its school record for victories in a season (old record:23).
* Michigan State won its 12th game in a row, breaking the school record of 11 straight wins set in 1977.
* Michigan State improved to 10-1 this season in games against nationally-ranked teams. MSU has now won twice as many games this season against ranked opponents than any previous season.
* Liz Shimek led MSU with 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists. She now has 460 points this season, which is ninth most in a single season in MSU history.
* Kelli Roehrig had 10 points and five rebounds for MSU, and helped hold Minnesota All-American Janel McCarville to two points on 1-of-17 shooting.
* Lindsay Bowen added 10 points for the Spartans, pushing her season total to 428, which is 15th best in a single season in MSU history.
* Kristin Haynie had just six points but added five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Her three steals give her 328 for her career, moving her up three spots to third on the Big Ten's all-time steals list.
* Michigan State had 13 assists and only 11 turnovers. The Spartans have had more assists than turnovers in nine of their last 10 games. MSU has also forced its opponent into more turnovers in nine of its last 10 games, after forcing Minnesota into 17 tonight.
* Michigan State, which was outrebounded just twice all season, was outrebounded for the second time in three Big Ten Tournament games. Minnesota had a 45-31 edge on the boards.
* MSU held Minnesota to 26.8 percent shooting, which was the second lowest percentage against MSU this season.
* Minnesota became the ninth team this season to be held under 50 points by MSU.
* Michigan State is now 8-0 this season when the national anthem takes more than 1:30. Tonight's anthem was a season-long 1:53.
